Origins
Kalle Ekstrand and Christian Wallerfors founded and established Nautical ID in Gothenburg in 2019. Their mission was to make boat ownership even more enjoyable. The intention was to provide an innovative level of early warning which facilitated the boat owner being immediately contactable in the event of any current or impending problem.
The Nautical ID Plate was the founder’s solution to providing a boat owner with peace of mind and quickly established a significant presence in the Nordic market.
This company was fortunate to meet the founders in early 2020 and immediately saw the potential for this simple but immensely helpful marine product.
NIDI is a joint venture between the Swedish founders and like minded British yachtsmen embodying all the original virtues but now intent on developing the product’s potential for widespread use in the global pleasure boat market.
How was the idea born?
Many have walked alongside a quayside or marina pontoon and seen something amiss with a boat, a problem we would ideally like to report if possible. The problems can be many and varied and often the boat’s owner or marina staff are completely unaware. It happened to the founders and may well have happened to you.
It is extremely difficult to contact the owner or at worst notify them of any impending problem. The same problems and lack of contact can be even more challenging in unfamiliar surroundings.
Ultimately it was a slipped mooring that led us to develop a solution of our own!
The Solution?
Nautical ID provides a fast and effective way to contact the boat owner in the event of emergency.
By scanning the boats unique QR code, fellow boat owners or passersby who see any problem can now immediately inform you, helping you to take action.
The QR code can be scanned by any smartphone owner giving you an instant SMS message.
